The Middle Ages was the time between the fall of Rome and the fall of Constantinople. During this time, there were wars, famines, and diseases. The Renaissance was a time of rebirth of Greek and Roman classics and prosperity. The Renaissance people knew they were different, they learned new things, and succeeded in many different forms of art and science. The many unique advances made the Renaissance a distinct period from the Middle Ages. People living during the Renaissance rediscovered themselves and the Greek and Roman classics. They knew they were in a time of prosperity, which was different from the Middle Ages. Wassace K. Ferguson, author of The Renaissance (Doc. 1), wrote, â€Å"The idea that there was a great revival or rebirth of†¦show more content†¦Petrarch was a humanist, so he focused on the value of the human being. He agrees that there was a change in society during the Renaissance because the Middle Ages mainly focused on the church and other religious thin gs. They no longer listened to the church’s teachings and tried to find scientific reasons for things. In Life and Letters of Erasmus (Doc. 5), it reads, â€Å"The religious orders nowadays care only for money and sensuality, while learning has passed to secular princes and peers and courtiers.† Erasmus knows that the priests no longer care about learning, but the nobility are now gaining and sharing knowledge. He was a Dutch humanist and he also thought there was a change. Erasmus described the Middle Ages as a â€Å"long deep sleep† in Life and Letters of Erasmus (Doc. 5) to help people realize what the Middle Ages really were. Throughout many centuries, especially the fifteenth century, many universities were founded.
